Amanda Vilchez
HELLO! I am a Peruvian biologist and student in the Ph.D. program in the Department of Communication at Cornell University. My studies focus on science communication and citizen science.
I started these studies in Peru, my native country, and I plan to expand them to Latin America.
I conduct all my research influenced by my two backgrounds, natural sciences, and social sciences. And with a diverse and inclusive approach.
HOLA! Soy una bióloga peruana, actualmente estudiando en el programa de doctorado del Departamento de Comunicación en la Universidad de Cornell. Mis estudios se centran en: la comunicación científica y la ciencia ciudadana.
He iniciado estos estudios en el Perú, al ser mi país de origen, proyectandome a expandirlos a Latinoamérica.
Todas mis investigaciones se desarrollan en sinergia entre mis dos formaciones, en ciencias naturales y ciencias sociales. Y con un enfoque en diversidad e inclusión.

Comunicación científica en el Perú
My research centered on science communication initiatives in Peru, their science focus, the platforms used, and target audiences.
Additionally, to contextualize these efforts in communication, I study the professionals behind these initiatives—their motivations, goals, and training in the field.
Mi investigación se enfoca en las iniciativas de comunicación de la ciencia en el Perú. Las temáticas que utilizan, las plataformas en las que se desarrollan y los públicos a los que se dirigen.
Complementariamente, para contextualizar estos esfuerzos en comunicación, estudio a los profesionales detrás de estas iniciativas. Sus motivaciones, objetivos y capacitación en el campo.

As a practitioner of participatory studies, I am the founder of the Ciencia Ciudadana Perú organization. With a team of biologists and volunteers, we have been carrying out the “Citizen Monitoring of Bats in Peru” since 2020.
As a researcher, I study the experience of volunteers during their participation in scientific research.
Como desarrolladora de estudios participativos, soy fundadora de la organización Ciencia Ciudadana Perú. Junto a voluntarios y un equipo de biólogos, llevamos a cabo el “Monitoreo ciudadano de murciélagos en el Perú” desde el 2020.
Como investigadora, estudio la experiencia de los voluntarios durante su participación en investigaciones científicas.
I strongly believe the development of participatory research, such as citizen science, can include historically excluded populations in science. Through articulated work, diverse approaches, and co-created processes.
Tengo la convicción que el desarrollo de investigaciones participativas como la ciencia ciudadana, pueden lograr la inclusión de poblaciones históricamente excluidas en la ciencia. Mediante el trabajo articulado, el uso de diversos en enfoques y con procesos co-creados.
